Practice Areas Overview
The Law Office of Darren R. Cantor, P.C. practices exclusively in the areas of criminal defense and attorney discipline, helping individuals charged with state and federal criminal offenses in Denver and statewide throughout Colorado.
Why You Need An Attorney
If you have been arrested, you already know that you are facing serious consequences if convicted. A person convicted of a felony offenses can be sentenced to years in prison, including life in prison without parole or even the death penalty in the case of first-degree murder and certain other offenses. For a misdemeanor offense, you can be sentenced to up to a year in jail and be hit with significant fines as well. Driving Under the Influence (DUI) is in many ways more severe than the penalties for other "more serious" crimes, and can result in the loss of your driver's license or restriction of your driving privilege along with criminal punishments such as fines and imprisonment.
An attorney can do more than help you avoid a criminal conviction. An attorney can advise you of your rights and help you understand the situation you are facing. Where the evidence against you is strong, you may choose to negotiate a plea rather than face a trial. An experienced criminal defense lawyer can negotiate a plea bargain that minimizes the long-term consequences of a conviction, including arranging sentencing that avoids incarceration.

What To Do If You Are Arrested
Be respectful and do not argue or be confrontational with the police, but at the same time do not answer any questions or give your consent to any search. Request to speak to an attorney before answering any questions and stay firm in your request. Submitting to questioning or consenting to a search will only help the police build a case against you, even if you are innocent of any wrongdoing. Even if you did do something wrong, do not assume that you are guilty. Prosecutors have wide latitude on what offenses to charge, and you may be charged with a more serious crime than you actually committed.
Do not try to arrange bail before you have talked to an attorney. We may be able to have you released without bail, or you may save money with the bail bond company if you have legal representation first. Even if you have not been arrested but believe you are under investigation, give us a call. We can find out the extent of the law enforcement interest in you and work to influence what charges are eventually filed, or whether any charges are filed at all, greatly enhancing your chances at a positive outcome.
The sooner you contact an attorney, the sooner your lawyer can begin helping you. In Denver, Boulder, and throughout Colorado, contact The Law Offices of Darren R. Cantor, P.C. for a free consultation.
